With recent launch of its Barton-core Athlon XP 3000+ and Athlon MP 2600+ processors, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is said to plan to introduce the new core into its current products in the desktop-use Athlon XP line. According to sources, the company is expected to launch two Barton-core products, the Athlon XP 2800+ and 2500+, soon to fortify its overall portfolio.

Chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) on February 10 launched its latest processor, the Athlon XP 3000+, for the desktop market. Adopting the Barton core, the new Athlon XP 3000+ is built on 32-bit architecture and manufactured using 0.13-micron copper processing.

Taiwanese chipset designers VIA Technologies and Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) expressed little disappointment regarding yet another delay by Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) in launching its K8-core Athlon 64 processors, stating that the postponement may in fact help maintain chipset prices as well as their profits.
