Gigabyte GA-7VRXP Rev. 2.0
By: Tracy Cash
Lately there has been a myriad of motherboard choices for the Socket
A platform. Boards are popping up constantly with an extra "this
or that" being introduced. So many choices make for a difficult time
when you decide to make your system purchase.
One big reason for so many choices has been due to the fact that VIA
is constantly updating their chipset product line for the Socket A family.
VIA's first foray in the Socket A (DDR) platform was met with disappointment
due to slow performance. After this debacle, VIA stepped up with the KT266A
and all was forgiven.
Via, being unable to stand still, introduced the KT333 in February of
2002. The hope behind this chip was to give the Socket A platform a little
boost in performance. What you now get with the KT333 is Ultra ATA133
and DDR333 support along with all the features of the KT266A. Since the
Athlon system bus runs at 266MHz, the typical difference the KT333 has
over the KT266A is about 5%.
