First off the bat is the venerable 3DMark 2001 SE benchmark.
Unlike 3DMark 2003, this application will allow you to see just
how much of a role the processor plays in pushing these scores
higher and higher.
As you can see, the performance increase with the Athlon 64 over
the Athlon XP 3200+ is substantial. You would need to tack on
an extra 300MHz, thereby making the Athlon XP a 3800+ just to
equal the performance of the Athlon 64 3200+.
We overclocked the Athlon 64 3200+ and the Athlon 64 FX-51 just
to see what it would do. As you can see the Athlon 64 3200+ gained
in performance when we moved it to 2150MHz, but the Athlon 64
FX-51 did not move at all when we moved it to 2310MHz.
As we stated earlier, the 3DMark 2003 benchmark does not really
move much with different processors. It is more a test of the
performance level of the video card rather than the entire system.

case of the Athlon 64 3200+ and the Athlon 64 FX-51, they blew
the doors off of the processors they are to replace. You would
need an iceberg to cool the Athlon XP enough to clock it to the
necessary levels to compete with the Athlon 64. An interesting
note is how well the Quake III test took to the extra 200MHz on
the Athlon 64 FX-51 over the Athlon 64 3200+.

This CPU intensive benchmark shows once again how powerful the
new Athlon 64 and Athlon FX processors really are. Taking into
account that the Athlon XP 3200+ and the Athlon 64 FX-51 are operating
at the same core frequency (2.2 GHz) there is no doubt there is
plenty of power under the hood of the Athlon 64. It looks like
the Comanche 4 benchmark really likes those extra MHz that the
Athlon 64 FX-51 has over the Athlon 64 3200+.

Now we see a situation where the advantage of the Athlon 64
is not as sizable as other cases compared to the Athlon XP.
We were absolutely blown away by these UT2003 scores. UT2003
tends to scale with processor speed, and given the fact the frequencies
of the Athlon 64 and Athlon XP processors represented here are
so close, an increase of this magnitude was not expected. Here
we have more than a 20% jump in the move to the Athlon 64 CPU.

Nothing really new here in this synthetic benchmark. The higher
the CPU clock, the higher the score. Obviously the Athlon FX comes
out on top. The real revelation here is the advantage in memory
the integrated controller gives the Athlon 64.

This benchmark that is based on Cinema 4D - 3D Software performs
a series of test and gauges the time it takes each system to render
the specific scene. This graph shows the CPU Rendering portion
of the test. As you can see the higher clocked of the two Athlon
64 processors takes the lead in the application, followed by the
Athlon 64 3200+ and the XP 3200+ coming in a close 3rd.
This series ofL applications shows a different story it
seems with each application is performs. For the most part we
can say the Athlon 64 FX-51 wins, but with some healthy competition
from its younger siblings.
