SiSoft Sandra is a standard for many end users/builders to compare their systems to others. These benchmarks are quoted on every website you find and are almost the cornerstone of bragging rights. In our first benchmark we are looking at the MSI K7D Master's performance in the CPU benchmark. The results are right in line with the Tyan Tiger MPX. The K7D Master holds a slight lead over the Tyan Tiger MP. In the Multi-Media Benchmark, the K7D Master's result fell between the Tiger MPX and Tiger MP platforms with the Tiger MPX holding the lead. With the first two benchmarks run the K7D Master is performing as expected. Of course this is only the beginning and you really can't get the whole picture if you only look at one thing. So now it is time for our last Sandra Benchmark, the Memory Benchmark. Surprisingly the K7D Master shows some strength and beats out both of your Tyan platforms by approximately 3.5% and 4% respectively. It's not a crushing defeat of the Tigers but the K7D Master is already showing promise.

Content Creation Winstone 2001 Ver 1.01 is a system-level, application-based benchmark that measures a PC's overall performance. Content Creation will keep several applicationsat once and switches among those applications. Programs used during this are Adobe Photoshop 5.5, Adobe Premiere 5.1, Macromedia Director 8.0, Macromedia Dreamweaver 3.0, Netscape Navigator 4.73, and Sonic Foundry Sound Forge 4.5. The K7D Master again shows a bit more power by out pacing both of the Tiger platforms. Here the margin of victory is a slim .3 points but it is a victory never the less.

Business Winstone 2001 Ver 1.01 is another system-level, application-based benchmark that measures a PC's overall performance. Business Winstone runs real applications through a series of scripted activities and uses the time a PC takes to complete those activities to produce its performance scores.

The K7D Master out performs the Tigers again. Margin of victory here is even smaller at only .2. In both the Content Creation and Business Winstone benchmarks, the K7D Master edged out the Tyan Tiger platforms.
CLI Bench MK III SMP is as stated on the web page, a different benchmarking solution. This benchmark runs a gamut of synthetic benchmarks that includes: Dhrystones, Whetstones, Eight queens' problem, Matrix operations, Number Crunching, Floating point, memory throughput, hard disk's throughput and the CPU usage.

After compiling the results of the Clibench Benchmark it looks like a dead heat in all seven tests. Only in the Floating Point K Ops did the Tiger MP show an edge.
Science Mark 1.0 will measure the performance of your computer by the execution of a few tests, including the simulation of liquid argon, energy calculation of H2O, and the like. When comparing the three tests, smaller numbers are better.

The K7D Master with its Science Mark Score of 111.24 wins the benchmark. It seems the K7D Master's low score of 215.7 in the Primoda was a large enough margin of victory to make up for it's losing the Argon and Qmc benchmarks. Cinebench 2000 is another benchmarking program that uses raytracing to test the CPU for performance.

The benchmark results are listed in CB units. Larger numbers here are better. So what is a CB unit? Well the explanation that is given is using a reference system of a Pentium 133 MHz. The result represents how much faster your system is than the reference. The Tigers are running a bit behind here also as the K7D Master out scores them in all but one test. Again the margin of victory is extremely slim.
POV-Ray creates three-dimensional, photo-realistic images using a rendering technique called ray-tracing. It reads in a text file containing information describing the objects and lighting in a scene and generates an image of that scene from the viewpoint of a camera also described in the text file. I ran the Pawn benchmark. In the graph legend below you will see several different optimizations used to run the tests. The optimized coding is the only difference between each test. There is quite a difference achieved by optimized coding alone. Smaller numbers are better as this reflects the time it takes in seconds to complete the rendering.

The K7D Master holds the tigers at bay in the first two benchmarks and even out renders both Tigers in the New Optimization benchmark.
SPECviewperf 6.1.2 parses command lines and data files, sets the rendering state, and converts data sets to a format that can be traversed usingL rendering calls. It renders the data set for a pre-specified amount of time or number of frames with animation between frames. Finally, it outputs the result. SPECviewperf reports performance in frames per second. In this benchmark, higher numbers are better.

OUCH, the K7D Master takes a real beating in this benchmark losing all six benchmarks to the pair of Tigers. Thinking I may have inadvertently left something running while performing the benchmark I reran the entire test. Nope the results where accurate, the K7D Master comes up short this round.
