Software and Production
SiSoft Sandra is a very popular and commonly used utility for
benchmarking various parts of a PC. It is a very handy utility for testing
parts of a PC or burning in a new system to test for stability.
The following tests used here are for measuring the CPU and memory performance.
There is quite a noticeable difference between the XP2400+ and the XP2600+
as compared to the XP2600+ to the XP2800+.
I did not realize the speed of the memory benchmark until I was making
these charts. The XP2600+ seems to edge out the XP2800+ by a slim margin.
After seeing the results the tests were run two more times on each CPU,
and the outcome was the same. This was the only real shocker in all the
benchmarks.
Content Creation is a benchmark that uses many real-time business
applications including programs such as PhotoShop, Macromedia's Dreamweaver,
Netscape Navigator, and a few others. Content Creation runs many of these
applications at once as a real world business does and gives it a score.

Sysmark 2002 is a lengthy utility that runs a battery of real
world applications. These are timed tests running many applications, computing
various tasks. This could range from data transfer, photo editing, to
presentation preparation. This is another test that is interesting to
watch as you can see the speed that the processors perform the editing
in real time. The differences in these benchmarks were minimal across
the board.

Gaming
I am not sure how many of you are gamers, but I fall into this category
along with my children. Most of you reading will already know the following
gaming benchmarks. They are popular tests used by most sites world wide.
In the Quake 3, Unreal Tournament 2003, and Aquanox benchmarks, pay close
attention to the lower resolutions. These tests are less GPU dependant,
showing the CPU's raw capabilities.
DroneZ is anL benchmarking utility similar to 3DMark as
it tests the CPU's ability to push the rest of the components to play
a preset demo. After the test is complete, it shows the maximum and minimum
FPS listed along with the average FPS. The following is the average FPS.
These tests flew by on all four of the CPU's, but the XP2800+ was a real
screamer.

Quake3 Arena needs no introduction as it has been around for a
while now. It is a greatL benchmark to display a CPU's raw power
in lower resolutions.

The XP2400+'s 266FSB seemed to show some weaknesses as there is not
a even scalable step down in performance. There is nearly a 50FPS gap
between the XP2400+ and the XP2800+ at 640x480 with a 32bit color depth.
Aquamark is a D3D game that you can actually play. It is based
on a real game like Unreal Tournament and Quake. The results of the tests
are representative of real world gaming performance. This benchmark obviously
does not demonstrate the difference in CPU power as the older Quake3 engine
did. This benchmark also did not show the large gap from the 266MHz FSB
to the 333MHz FSB CPUs.

raised this game engine to do unreal things. The newest version of Unreal
Tournament contains its own benchmarking utility built into the game.
Again the lower frame rates are the ones to watch here as they are the
least GPU dependant. Unreal Tournament 2003 is known for its CPU intensive
game play. It also does a flyby benchmark that is separate from the normal
game play. Watching these CPUs handle the latest and probably the best
game for eye candy available to the public right now was amazing. The
frames per second never dropped below 50FPS, and this was done with the
9500pro and not the 9700pro.
3DMark 2001se is the "king" when it comes
to bragging rights amongst gamers, overclockers and system builders. It
will test system stability and stress memory and CPU usage to the limits.
If you have pushed beyond a components ability, 3DMark will let you know
by failure of test, system crash, or both. This benchmark utility is made
by Futuremark (formerly MadOnion) and has an excellent reputation for
testing gaming performance.

The Radeon being pushed by these CPUs seemed to be pushed to the limits
on many of the Direct 3D benchmarks, as the FPS on the these tests wavered
very little.
