Command and Conquer: Generals
Has Command and Conquer grown up? Or is the formula simply growing
old?
In many ways Generals is the same Command and Conquer that real-time
strategy fans know and love. But many Westwood, (now EA Pacific,)
RTS players may be surprised by the number of departures the team
has taken for their newest title.

You definitely know that through SEO, your business will benefit hugely, so you have to make sure to find the right Link Building Company that can help you gain your goals SEO on lookup motor rankings, finding the best Link Building Company for your business is a lot more crucial than ever. Link building Company will help you | Simple Website Templates. Every great website and web design needs a starting place or point. Our own newly redesigned website started from a basic template that was heavily modified to suit our needs and the same can be done for you. Using our simple sea website templates on our site you can buy website templates If you're intimately familiar with the C&C series, there are
a few changes that will probably grab your attention. The first
of is noticeable before the game is even run. Gone is the stylish,
graphically intensive installation program of previous C&C games,
in favor of the tried-and-true, (albeit somewhat boring by comparison,)
InstallShield. Of course, this switch has no impact whatsoever on
gameplay, but for us veteran Westwood strategy players it is a bit
disappointing.
Another saddening decision, (at least in my own opinion,) is the
removal of the excellent live-action cutscenes that have always
played a prominent role in past Command and Conquer games. (Mission
briefings and story descriptions are now done in-engine.) As a result
of this, the plot now plays almost no role in the game. Basically,
the Global Liberation Army (GLA) is bad, so China and the United
States must put a stop to their chemical warfare and suicide bombings.

The last of the non-gameplay changes is the soundtrack. If you've ever played
C&C, then you are most-likely familiar with the techno/rock music accompanying
your frantic pointing-and-clicking. By contrast, the music in Generals consists
of sweeping orchestral tracks, scored to fit the particular side the user
is playing. (The Chinese soundtrack for example, has a distinctly oriental
feel.) It works quite well. Despite all these cosmetic changes, the core
game is very much classic Command and Conquer. The over-the-top, almost
cartoonish armies, fighting with brilliantly unique and balanced units,
complemented by powerful and terror-inspiring superweapons should make any
diehard fan feel right at home. |

What is immediately apparent is the influence that Blizzard's
'Craft series has had on Generals. There is now a builder unit for
each side, and structures no longer have to be built within a certain
proximity to the main base. The unit menu, previously on the right
side of the screen, now scrolls along the bottom, and has a layout
almost identical to Blizzard's. This interface is probably the weakest
part of Generals; it takes up far too much of the screen and lacks
some of Red Alert 2's features, like the "Select all unit type"
and "Guard" buttons. True, these functions can be performed
with the appropriate hotkeys, but it's nice to have them easily available.
The interface is one of a few issues that give Generals a rushed feel.
Much of the game (unit balance, path finding, enemy AI,) seems very
polished, so it's surprising to see graphical glitches and menus that
look like they could've been made in MS Paint. |
