Exterior

From the get go you can see this case is very similar in appearance to the Cooler Master ATC-210; well at least the front is. I'm sure the people over at Cooler Master are frowning a bit, but everyone knows the computer industry is a cutthroat market. At a glance this is what we have; a PC-60 with a blue acrylic door with some unique lighting on the front bezel and a tricked out 2-in-1 side panel. All you have to do is give the case a spiffy new name, and shazam, you have the PC-6089A!

As a consumer, this is the point in which you will probably determine if this case is appealing to you or not. As you can see this case features a blue tinted acrylic door. Lian-Li has done some etching to give you a fog type effect over the 5.25 bays, not only does it look appealing but it will also help mask those beige CD-ROM drives. It is apparent Lian-Li realizes style is just as important as functionality. They have included a silver 3.5 floppy stick-on bezel. If you are not familiar with this Lian-Li specialty item, see the review here. The lower portion of the door has a half-mooned notch cut out to provide easy access to the (2) USB 2.0 ports. Two blue light strips reside on both sides of the 5.25 bays, which do nothing more than a cool visual effect. Unlike the PC-60, the front bezel of the PC-6089A is not easily removable. If you are an extreme tech guru and wish to further modify the case, it is duly noted it can be removed with some extra effort and the proper tools. Previous PC-6x series models featured a removable 3.5 rack, but since the front bezel had to be redesigned for the placement of the door, the external 3.5 drive rack is no longer removable.

The fan speed control can now be changed without removing the front bezel, which is very convenient, and I hope to see Lian-Li implement this feature on the rest of their product line.

The front air intake of the PC-6089a has been completely redesigned. As you can see from the above picture it is very small and greatly hinders the case's overall cooling ability, which for the majority of people isn't really a problem, but for the enthusiast who has the latest hardware, which I'll bet is running at above normal speeds and producing much more heat, it's not a good choice. In order to get decent cooling from this case you would have to modify it quite a bit. I also had access to a PC-60 case and was curious how the two compared, needless to say after quite a bit of testing the PC-6098A was about 3-4 degrees hotter then the original PC-60 because of the highly restrictive air intake.

The side panel is rather unique because it is actually two side panels in one. Within the area of the window there is a smaller aluminum panel held in place by four tabs. This gives the user the option of exposing the contents within the case or keeping them hidden like a traditional case. On a side note, the tabs will need to remain in place whether or not the inner aluminum panel is installed. If they are not present, you will have four empty screw holes on the exterior of the side panel, which is not appealing by any means. The side panel also features a series of blue dots around the edge of the actual window, which gives it a blue tinted fade effect; none of which has been seen in any kind of case before.

The rear of the case continues to follow the classic PC-60 design. Lian-Li cases are well known for their ease of accessibility. Just like it's predecessors, the 6089A features a removable motherboard tray, one 80 MM fan, completely tool-less entry design, and if for some reason, you're concerned about security the case also features a security ring (lock not included). By placing a lock through the ring on both the motherboard tray and the side panel, neither the side panel nor the MB tray can be removed.
