The SL-75FRN-L derives its power from the nForce2 chipset from NVIDIA. This
chipset has become the favorite among many Socket A fans primarily due to its
excellent performance. Certainly, the nForce2 has earned a reputation of being
a great performer, but this chipset packs many features as well.

The SPP (System Platform Processors) Northbridge processor paired with the
MCP2 (Media and Communications Processors) Southbridge processor paves the way
for features such as HyperTransport, LPC Super I/O, PCI interface, ATA133, LAN,
USB 2.0, AGP 8X, DDR400, and AC'97 Audio 6-channel sound. Missing from this
list are features available only to the MCP2-T such as DualNet, the feature
laden Audio Processing Unit, and IEEE 1394a (FireWire). Integrated Graphics
as a part of the IGP Northbridge is available in the SL-75MRN-L.

In the area of memory and FSB speeds is when the nForce2 begins to really shine
in the Socket A arena. The nForce2 is able to support DDR400. The KT400 from
VIA has yet to "officially" support DDR400 and will not until the
introduction of the KT400a.
The SL-75FRN-L carries a feature called Asynchronous Memory Mode. This will
allow your AthlonXP with a FSB of 133MHz or 166MHz to benefit from DDR400 speeds.
This feature will also enhance the overclocking experience along with the AGP
and PCI clock lock in the BIOS.

Another benefit for the Golden Flame received from the nForce2 chipset is
Dual Channel Memory Bus. To enable this feature, you must use two sticks of
identical memory placed in DIMM1 and DIMM3. The nForce2 incorporates two 64-bit
memory controllers with a combined 128-bit memory access. This allows the memory
to request and write simultaneously. When running the SL-75FRN-L at DDR400 speeds,
the memory throughput jumps from 3.2 GB/sec. to 6.4 GB/sec.

up to 6 channels of PCM audio output. The rear panel of the SL-75FRN-L has a
Game Port, Front Speaker, Rear Speaker, and a Center/Subwoofer Speaker connector.
The SL-02KIT is an optional connector purchased separately that provides additional
SPDIF input, SPDIF output, Surround/Rear Speaker output, Center/Subwoofer Speaker
output connections. For added support, the optional SL-02KIT can (pictured below)
plug directly to the motherboard. When the SL-02KIT is installed, the Center
and Surround Speaker output function can migrate to the SL-02KIT. The on-board
audio ports can resume the LINE-IN and MIC-IN functions.
