Unhappy WHY ME?!?!?!

nothing but problems... I've tried 3 versions of it and the damn thing keeps hanging on
"Getting ID from AS: Microsoft Windows 98"
"Could not get ID from server. Retrying..."

I know I'm behind a firewall, no big deal, Both the UD agent, and Seti@Home work fine through it, but what's th prob here? Searched through Stanford's site and found nothing useful... Blah!

I think this is a wonderful thing and since I am in the beginning stages of alzheimers (which this helps) I will come on board as soon as I can. Got to get a computer running first. I must do a little research for I am on dial up and I think this is configured for always connected.

Ancient....

When you install the aplication, it will ask you "If you want to be promted before sending WU data". Tell it "Yes" and you will be prompted to dial up before it sends. ;> Im not sure, but I think someone has comeup with a way to have it use your DUN (Dial up Networking) to dial up for you then disconnect.

I'll do some hunting and let you know.

I use this one(F@H) as opposed to others because i tcovers pretty much all of the diseases instad of focusing on one.

Question United Devices THiNK team

Tell ya what fellas, if there isn't one already, I'll go ahead and set up Team AthlonXP.COM. The only reason I mention it is that up until very recently, I was never able to get Folding to work. I have yet to find a setup that can't run UD...

http://download.ud.com/gold/win32/ud_agent_setup.exe

Another nice little thing about this program, they have changed the task list every now and then and you can choose which ones you want to be part of. Another difference I've seen is that you can stop it for a few minutes (or a couple hours) with a snooze function and not worry about losing the unit you're working with. Even with crashes, and lord knows we've all had our share of those, it doesn't miss a beat.

Anyhow, the team is set up for anyone interested and can be found at the following url:

http://members.ud.com/services/team...7B-A37E3FC7D372

Desudet... thanks for the info, but I think we need to put all of our efforts to one team for the moment until we get the user base a little more fortified. Its growing rapidly and we should have no troubles supporting two teams in the future.

If anyone would still like to go the UD route, than by all means do. Either client is for a great cause.

>Main reason I am posting today, is to inform our current members to watch out, as I will be taking my main machine of of Icrontics team(curently 12th) tonight and moving it over to crunch WU's for Athlon.

I plan to stay at the top of the chart here!! Yes, thats a challange for anyone willing to take it from me. :>

another note...

DeSudet...

Your machine is Folding like crazy, Ive watched it rip through WU's fairly quickly. Would be a shame to lose you as a member for F Could you crunch for both teams?

Why Thanks Gabos! I appreciate the compliment! And all this with doing both UD and F I'm even contumplating throwing Seti into the mix while I'm at it... Long hours at work give me a sweet paycheck, and (bitter/sweet) leave my machine all alone with nothing else to do...

I agree with sticking with one project for now, and since you started this mess I vote with F@H first and foremost. UD or Seti if anyone feels up to it... (and of course, the Seti team will be the usual AthlonXP.com...

DeSudent..

Any idea how we could boost more intrest in supporting our teams?

I have created Team sigs in the past for team members to flaunt around the forums.... this sound doable? Any sugestions?

I have been busy working on a new look and button set for the forums and have had little time to premote the team.

I have no idea... Other than mass mailings and plugging it in the heavier traffic threads, I can't think of anything right off...

Although.... If we can talk the admins around here into possibly working out some sort of promo or contest....?

Would like to add my 1/4 cents here . I have seen at another place where they raced so hard it made the guys with the slower machines fade away. Im talking about over a 100 of them in 2 months. I would be careful about making the slower ones feel not needed or valued as much as the guys with the bigger machines. It dosent bother me to be slow or at the bottom of the heap (heck I am used to it ) but I would like for a guy with a 400mhz to feel he is just as important as the guy with a super computer, for he is. I know the type gentleman we have here, would never do this intentionaly (thats why I like this place so much ). So please pardon my rambling, but I have been telling a few guys about how great this place is although the cookie man dose not say hello to me as often as he should
ancient

Oh yes, I RMA'ed one board today and due to one fine gentleman here I should have another one tommorrow at 5 oclock which means I should be downloading and crunching this weekend

Im currently using a PII450 to run my F@H for the team. Every bit counts... and I held my own and more at Icrontic on a Duron 600.. running against guys with multiple Athalons.

The trick is to never stop. The little guy that never gives up will always come out ahead.

I want the little guys.

If anyone has a slow machine that is not in use because they feel there is no use fr it.. there is!! Run it asa dedicated Folding machine for the team!

Lets get this thing rocking

Hey Im you, my machines are never that great but I try to do my little bit . Im slow but faithful. I will have to do my seti@home for the other team for like I say, I am faithful, but folding will be for this team . I plan on talking to the guys over there a little later and ask them how they would feel about me transferring to over here. Heck, after all, I stay over here

Well, I haven't been here that long to know much of anybody, or taken the time to read the board's policy on this, but I've posted a new thread over in the "News" section with a link back to this thread... Also has a poll asking which Dist Comp program(s) they would run. Can't hurt, right?

And the promo I was thinking of wouldn't neccesarily be for the best performance, but small prizes weekly prizes randomly drawn (1 chance per machine), Medium prizes drawn randomly every quarter, and a big prize drawn annually. I don't have any real ties around here, but I'm sure somehing could be worked out...

Maybe even see if we can't find sponsorship for the team(s). Great PR for them, great incentive for people to join and stick with it...
