Nefir,
VIA will soon be launching a KT400A which is supposed to be "true" 400MHz, and will rival the nForce 2 for AMD'ers. That's right around the corner. Of course, our 400MHz RAM is already out in force, but mainly to provide overclocking headroom.

jfin,
our 3200LL parts should scream along nicely at 200MHz on an A7N8X. We test that at that speed in that board before we ship them. If there's a problem, the first thing to try is to slow down the clock speed to see if it's stable at slower speeds.

Yes I heard the same thing, that KT400A Are being used to test the new Athlons with 400 FSB.
Are they using Corsair Ram?

Boa,
prices in the first 2 wks of Feb were diving. Last week they dropped a little, but not much, indicating that prices are levelling off. People always ask me what will happen next with memory prices and I say it's like guessing the stock market; if I knew I'd be rich. But the fact is, the big guys making silicon (ie. Samsung, Micron, Infineon) are not making profit at the current price level. So I think prices will climb back up a bit.

Yeah, when I set the memory speed to 166 mHz, it's fine. 200, not so fine. This is a replacement mobo from Monarch Computer, so maybe I have a bad stick...

If the memory is pretested....it's hard to say. Presumably the memory should be fine...although the performance and stability gains running synch might outweigh the extra few points.

Why not run Synch....and just up your FSB to 200

I think Joe means that run your cpu at a lower speed in MHz and try the ram at 200 still.

Seems I have seen a lot of "Bad Sticks" lately... Is this due to lower quality control, or just the wide range of motherboards using different pipelines and such... Seems that I have had a lot of problems running any brand memory at the top edge of it's ratings... what do you think the reason is? is there a list of "supported" motherboards to run at the rated speeds???

Sharp,
We have a bunch of our fastest modules in the test labs at all the leading chipset vendors: Intel, AMD, VIA and nVidia. It helps to be HQ'ed right down the road from those companies. But it also helps to have the fastest RAM on the market. We do put a lot of effort into strategic relations with chipset and motherboard makers.

Joe - would you know if anybody in Canada carries the TwinMOS PC3200? I try not to order out of the US...as much as NewEgg is convenient, it costs a fortune to import it.

Oh, they'll ship international....however credit cards give you several points lower conversion rates than the official rates....so I'm looking at about $.50 on the US dollar. Add brokerage and taxes at the border, and I'm looking at probably 220% or more what an American has to pay in US $$.

There are certainly places that carry Corsair PC3200, but not necessarily matched and tested sticks.

I'm guessing you'd also want him to lower his multiplier and everything too?

You do have a point about the synch vs asynch. I've seen a few reviews (don't ask me where right off, this was a while ago doncha know) where running synch fsb actually had a slight edge over asynch (and some chipsets are a bit funny about the whole asynch thing too)....
