The name SATA 2 is being retired and is no longer the official name. SATA 2 is officially called SATA 3G, meaning SATA with 3Gbs transfer rate vs. the old SATA is 1.5Gbs transfer rate. The organization of vendors who created the standards for SATA and SATA 3G have published this official naming of this new version.
