im in the same situation with a XP2200.
I just upgraded my Video card and now my CPU is the week link in my system since its bus is only running at 266 but my ram is capable of 333. Id like to upgrade to a chip running the 333 bus speed but currently the actual speed jump id get is not enough for me to go for it.
I am doing just what you mentioned "wait a few more months till prices drop on the 3200xp"
Id say make the choice this way: Is your machine fast enough currently? if yes then yes id say wait for the >3000 chips to come down some in price.

I will agree with Murrie. I will wait till the magical 100 dollar mark then grab some of the XP3200s.

i think the only reason i wanted a new cpu was so i cud get a better motherboard leading to faster RAM and a 8x AGP gfx card :s, but ill prolly beg and plead to my mum so she can give me loads of £££ so i can buy one at x-mas, by then hopefully the prices will have lowered

all thats well and good, but id still check your current machine against the "is it fast enough" question. If your not having problems playing games or whatever with your current machine then waiting is probably the best bet.
Faster RAM is always nice, but the 8X AGP probably wont effect anything to a noticable degree

You definitely know that through SEO, your business will benefit hugely, so you have to make sure to find the right Link Building Company that can help you gain your goals SEO on lookup motor rankings, finding the best Link Building Company for your business is a lot more crucial than ever. Link building Company will help you | Simple Website Templates. Every great website and web design needs a starting place or point. Our own newly redesigned website started from a basic template that was heavily modified to suit our needs and the same can be done for you. Using our simple sea website templates on our site you can buy website templates I'd wait a while and see what happens to the prices. At the end of the month I plan on upgrading my motherboard and RAM because mine just doesn't do everything I want it to (I'm useing an ECS K7S5A and 256MB SDRAM). Later on, when prices drop, I'll be upgrading my XP2000+ to something around the, as Bab5 put it, "magical 100 dollar mark." Whenever I upgrade a processor for myself, I always buy what's around $100. I'm hopeing that it will be the 3200's when I'm ready to get a new processor, if not, I'll probably wait a little while.
Short version: I'd wait and see what the prices will do. The 2000+ you have right now will be good for a while.

Thanks for your comments, and u r all right, i guess atm, with cpu speeds goin faster and faster basically month after month, i wud prolly be wise to wait till the 3200xp comes down in prices, means i can 'Light-up' my pc wiv some CCFL kits and buy some extra gifts

well, if you really want to, go with the 2500 barton
faster bus speed with more cahche - so more of a difference
plus with any decent 400mhz supporting board or nf2, with 3200 ram, you can clock it up to the 400mhz bus and sync with ram, then get it close to 3200 speeds
and its close to 90 right now, too
