"ICE HOLE" exclusive review

Color with style

By D. Ryba, 23/01/2002

It is not often that a product comes along and captivates the user with originality, and zest. This product manages to provide both. Though this product is certainly not ordinary, it manages to create a niche and drive the everyday dull heatsink to a whole new colourful level.

For the lesser mortals in order to convert PSD to CSS converting Psd to html is something that requires the help of designers and programmers

Feeling PC is a prominent Korean-based manufacturer and reseller of specialized high-performance, overclocking products and accessories. Products range from CPU spacers, hard to find heatsinks to the ICE HOLE. As their website indicates, they focus on the growing market of the computer enthusiasts and the die-hard overclocker. In other words, the power user. Though there are only a handful of resellers (websites), which focus on accessories such as rounded cables, florescent lighting, and acrylic enclosures, I have yet to see a manufacturer provide a high-quality, aesthetically appealing device as the ICE HOLE. I must admit, I utterly stumbled into this little gem of a website. The ICE HOLE is an accessory of sorts. It is a mediatory device that resides between the 60mm or 80mm heatsink and fan. In other words, it is "sandwiched" between the heatsink and fan. It is the first unique fan adapter currently available. It is made of a 15mm block acrylic plastic assembled together with a fan controller and an LED (Light Emitting Diode). That is, it has three small jumpers that control the three primary colours; which are Red, Bleu, and Green. Let's take a look:

My initial concern was the footprint. Referencing the above illustration, shows the ICE HOLE to be approximately one inch longer and half the width of a standard 80mm fan. The difference in size is the accommodation of the PWR and FAN connector. Depending on the fan used, it accepts any 12V 3 or 4-pin connector. In addition, it also controls your fan speed at Normal, Medium, and Low settings.

Another potential advantage of the ICE HOLE is the possible lowering of your CPU temperature. Although it mounts on any 60mm heatsink base, the opposite end allows for any 80mm fan to be attached. Thus, allowing more airflow on your ceramic powerhouse.

As seen without an 80mm fan, depending on the type of enclosure you have, you may need to turn the ICE HOLE in the direction that best suits your wiring needs. As depicted in the graphic, the ICE HOLE may need to be mounted or turned upside down. Whereas, some configurations only allow the ICE HOLE to be mounted upside down. This has absolutely no effect on functionality and or aesthetics'.

This is a shot of our rig without the ICE HOLE… Pretty dull.

This is a shot of our rig with the ICE HOLE's installed. Looking better…

Lights out! Green and Bleu, fitting for those AMD groupies. In order to fit the ICE HOLE's in Tyan's K7 Thunder mainboard, I needed to turn them upside down for proper fit.

As illustrated above, the ICE HOLE rests horizontal. Because of the cramped quarters of some motherboards, you may need to experiment with the fitting of the ICE HOLE. You may need to turn it 90 or 180 degrees.

Currently, the ICE HOLE is not available in the United States. We are in the course of working with Feeling PC to determine the process involved to make these little beauties available to the masses. I will have an update shortly. The 38,000 South Korean Won translates into approximately $29.39. This is really an acceptable price to pay for such quality and ingenuity. To boot, the ICE HOLE comes with a myriad of screws and fittings to accommodate almost any heatsink. What is especially satisfying is the fact that the ICE HOLE's form factor is excellent and that it simply connects to an existing three pin connector on your motherboard. In addition, the ICE HOLE is flexible enough in that you can mount it in any direction to suit your real-estate needs. There is nothing worse than having a behemoth device cluttering up your enclosure with additional wiring while eating up valuable real-estate.

Feeling PC has really scored a win with their ICE HOLE. They have developed a product that not only provides excellent functionality, but looks fantastic while doing it! This is a must have for any computer enthusiasts or tweaker alike.
