Installation and Setup
The installation of the A7N266-C was painless to say the least. After mounting the board and installing the necessary components like processor, heatsink, memory, video card, ACR-A6CH card, and network card it was time to fire this baby up and see what she could do. Earlier we looked at the available Bios settings and at this point with everything running at system defaults with NO tweaking, we exited the Bios and installed the OS. For this review we installed Windows 2000 Professional with SP2 and all available patches. The OS installation went smoothly. Asus provides a complete driver disk that is simple to use and all drivers install in a flash. With the system up and running, we installed the benchmark programs and of course Unreal Tournament and SETI. With everything ready for benchmarking it was after midnight and time for rest. Well at least for me. I cranked Unreal Tournament and let the intro movie loop while SETI was running in the background. This is a true torture test and if the system is running in the morning it will be ready for benchmarking. With much delight I awoke to the sweet sound of the 60mm Black Label Delta singing in the distance. The UT intro movie was still looping and I had completed one SETI work unit and was half way through the next. Now that we know the system can handle the overnight stability test, it's time to see how the A7N266-C compares to the fastest Socket A platform available, the Epox 8KHA+.
