You may not be able to tell from this picture but the Iwill MPX2 is a huge platform. Sizing up the MPX2, we find that it measures a solid 12"x11.54". Falling just short of the Thunder K7X's Extended ATX platform of 13"x12", the MPX2 sports the second largest footprint of all the Dual AMD platforms we have tested. Its size will limit its ability to fit in just any ATX case. With the MPX2 mounted in an Enermax BB-1030 case you can see how tight things are.

The layout of the MPX2 is very clean and straightforward. The power connectors are located in the upper left hand corner of the platform. Having these connectors up and out of the way prevents the necessity for creative harness routing. Another advantage of this connector location is the fact that the power harnesses will not interfere with the internal airflow of the case. If you look closely you can see that these power connectors are not your average ATX connectors. Not to worry as Iwill is thinking ahead and these power connectors support not only the larger EPS power supplies but also the standard ATX connectors. The diagram below shows how this is done.

The Socket spacing on the MPX2 is the same as with all the Dual AMD Platforms. Iwill has left the appropriate amount of space to mount a heatsink. And for you guys that ask, yes the Iwill has mounting holes for larger heatsinks. As you can see the spacing above the mounting cleats is limited by a row of capacitors but there is a large amount of space on each side of both sockets. Iwill has added a touch of color to their platform by utilizing purple capacitors and a really bright green one on the heatsinks.

Iwill has chosen to utilize passive cooling on the MPX2. These passive heatsinks were only warm to the touch during testing and even while the platform was overclocked.

If you look to the upper right corner of the platform you will see four DDR memory slots. These four slots allow the Iwill MPX2 to support up to 4.0GB of DDR Memory. Again, due to the size of the MPX2 platform, be mindful of your case spacing in relation to the memory and component location.

As you can see from the picture above, the placement of the IDE and floppy connectors on this platform is in the lower right hand corner close to the edge. This will allow for easy, clean routing of cables to drives.
Iwill has provided the MPX2 platform with an AGP Pro slot. Iwill has provided us with a total of 6 PCI slots instead of the usual 5 PCI slots. The MPX2 provides us with two 64bit/66Mhz slots and four standard 32bit/33Mhz PCI slots. If you look at the layout of the PCI slots you can see that a standard 32bit slot separates the two 64bit slots. This allows for better access space around the 64bit slots. This extra spacing will come in handy when utilizing a 64bit/66Mhz SCSI Raid controller.

Our MPX2 sample is pretty much bare boned as far as the port features are concerned. Iwill has provided only the standard PS/2 ports, USB, printer and the standard two COM ports. I have become accustomed to the luxury of having integrated LAN and even Audio features. Of course if you were truly looking to use this platform for Audio/Multi-Media type production, integrated Audio would be a wasted feature. But the integrated LAN feature should in my opinion be a standard feature on most all platforms.

The Iwill MPX2 has several jumpers that you will need to familiarize yourself with. The first of these is JP5. This jumper sets the platforms CPU bus speed. When pins 1-2 and 3-4 of this 6-pin jumper are shorted the bus speed is set to 133Mhz. If you are looking to run processors with 100Mhz bus speeds, a pair of Durons for example, you will need to short pins 3-5 and 4-6. JP5 is located to the right and just below the first 64bit PCI slot.

The next jumper to pay close attention to is JP8. Located in the upper left corner just behind the PS/2 ports, this jumper enables the Microsoft Keyboard power on feature. By default pins 1-2 are shorted which disables this feature. Moving the jumper to Pins 2-3 will enable this feature.

When overclocking any platform, it is necessary to pump up the power for stability. JP25 allows you to increase the VIO voltages by 5% and 10%. The JP25 jumper is located just above the floppy connector. By default this three-pin connector comes jumper free for the default setting. Shorting pins 1-2 gives you a 5% increase in voltage and shorting pins 2-3 results in a 10% increase.

In the event you choose a setting that is out of range for your setup and the platform hangs or simply will not boot, JP3 located just below the platform battery will save the day. As you can imagine this jumper is for resetting the Bios to factory defaults. Always handy to know where this one is while adjusting memory timings and overclocking. Simply move the jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3 to reset the system Bios to factory defaults.
