The sound in Battlefield Vietnam is realistic with bullets zipping past and hitting trees. Tanks, helicopters and boats all sound like what you would expect from a modern action game, but Battlefield Vietnam goes a step further by adding music from the era. Sixties music such as War: What Is It Good For?, Wild Thing, and Surfin' Bird can be played when you are in any vehicle through the radio menu. Although the music will give away your position, it is a very nice touch. When playing, you can even add your own mp3's in the game folder. The songs will also play automatically while you wait for maps to load.
Another interesting addition on urban maps is speakers that convey messages designed to discourage US soldiers. An example of these messages is told by a woman with a Vietnamese accent: "You know you cannot win, soldier. It is best to leave sinking ship." When stationed at the main US base on other maps, you will hear radio comedy and announcements from the Vietnam era. The sounds of the game help to bring the game and the war to life.
