Conclusion
I still don't know exactly how I feel about this motherboard. It's fast
and stable and has no major issues, I just expected more. After reading
other nForce2 board reviews available on the internet, I thought I'd see
a huge difference over my older KT333 board, but in real world, day to
day use, I just don't see it. Benchmarks aside, I use my KT333 system
as often as my nForce2 system. Either Soyo just knocked the ball out of
the park with the Soyo Dragon Ultra Platinum Edition board, or the nForce2
chipset is not as fast as other reviews would have you believe. I've run
this Asus board in my main system for 2 months now and I can honestly
say that it doesn't "feel" any faster then my KT333 system.

has a very nice list of features, and it is fast and stable. I have to
say that the nForce platform has certainly matured. NVIDIA should be commended
for the strides they have made between the original nForce chipset and
the current nForce2 chipset. While I don't see it as the hands down fastest
platform for AMD CPU's, it's certainly a comparable solution and it's
more future proof. The ability to run the newer 333Mhz FSB CPU's and possible
support for the Barton cores makes this the chipset to invest in if you're
looking for a new motherboard. If you already have a KT333 or KT400 board,
you may want to wait until sometime in February, when motherboards should
start to appear with VIA's KT400A chipset. It should be interesting to
see which chipset will be the faster solution.
Pros:
- Fast
- Stable
- Feature packed
- Almost perfect board layout
- Supports the new 333Mhz FSB CPU's
- A fine alternative to VIA
- Should support the new Barton Core CPU's
- Great board for light overclocking
- Unlocks factory unlocked CPU's (at least on my board)
- Phenomenal memory throughput
Cons:
- Not quite as fast as I'd expected
- SoundStorm audio a let down for my purposes
- No included PATA to SATA converters
- A little plain looking (very minor)
- A fan header closer to the edge of the board by the IDE ports would
have been very welcome (minor gripe as well)
- 3COM NIC sporadically fails (at least on my board)
- CPU socket's proximity to the edge of the board precludes the use of certain HSF / case combos
