So there you are sitting at your workstation after a long day of putting out fires and dealing with all the headaches of work. You could use a little R&R to put the juice back into the batteries. If you are like many of us, a good round of gaming can bring everything back into perspective and refresh your soul. So how does the A7M266-D handle a few gaming benchmarks? Well we are about to find out. I have chosen to run three gaming benchmarks. Why only three? Well actually, I could run more but the three I have chosen will show us the type of gaming performance you as an enduser can expect to get from the A7M266-D.
Quake III has become a stable of benchmarking performance for most video card and motherboard modules.php?op=modload&name=Diner_Wrapper&file=index&req=ShowFile&file_wrap=html/modules.php?op=modload&name=Diner_Wrapper&file=index&req=ShowFile&file_wrap=html/reviews. Everyone is familiar with Quake III and the type of frame rates that can be generated on a good setup. Below you can see that the A7M266-D handles the task of Quake III very well indeed.

The above results are from running Quake III in default or single CPU mode. For the life of me, I could not get Quake III to run in SMP on the A7M266-D or the Tiger MPX. I am not sure what the cause of this was, but I was able to get the SMP mode to run on the Tiger MP just fine.
MadOnions 3DMark 2001 has become the cornerstone of benchmarking for gamers. This intensive direct 3D benchmark runs a video card through the paces but also helps show the overall performance of your gaming rig.

Even though at first glance the graph leads you to believe that the A7M266-D was rocking the Tyan boards world. There is just a 14-point difference between the A7M266-D and the Tiger MP and surprisingly 25-point difference between the A7M266-D and the Tiger MPX.
DroneZ is a unique benchmark. The graphics and visual effects are truly amazing. I have run this benchmark repeatedly just to watch the graphics. Another feature you may not be aware of is that DroneZ is a multithreaded game/benchmark such as Quake III. The difference is DroneZ automatically recognizes the Dual processor configuration rather than having to manually input the SMP "switch" as with Quake III.

DroneZ is a very demanding benchmark. The A7M266-D runs a bit behind its competition across the board. The results here did surprise me as the A7M266-D has been performing dead on with its Tyan counterparts. Still the A7M266-D boasts some good solid numbers, which equate to solid gaming performance. I think we shall see an increase in SMP implementation by game developers because owning a Dual processor system is becoming less of a dream and more of an affordable reality.
