Introduction

GeForce 4. Okay, I will admit it, I am a hardware junky. As soon as the GeForce 4 line was introduced, my love affair with my GeForce 3 was over. I could not stop thinking about getting a GeForce 4. I am addicted to First Person Shooter style games and with the upcoming release of UT2003 and Unreal II on the horizon; I wanted to make sure I could run these games in all their glory. Plus, I would have bragging rights for having one of the fastest video cards available.

My GeForce 3 card was a standard Gainward GeForce 3 which I have always been happy with. Since I had read about Gainward's enhanced mode settings (a guaranteed 15-20 percent overclock of the card), I thought that a Gainward card would be my best bet for performance. I chose the Gainward GeForce 4 PowerPack Ultra/700XP (Golden Sample), which is their rendition of the GeForce 4 Ti 4400. The reason I wanted a Ti 4400 is because the Ti 4600 is too expensive for my taste and the Ti 4400 isn't that much slower. I figured with the slight OC guaranteed on Gainward's Golden Sample line of products, the Ultra/700XP would give me performance that was as close to Ti 4600 speeds as I could get, while still saving ~$100.
