Benchmarks
Many will expect to run the KD7 at DDR400 speeds even though the KT400
chipset only "unofficially" supports these speeds. For these
tests we have included benchmarks for the KD7 running at DDR333 and DDR400
speeds.

Included as a comparison, the Gigabyte 7VRXP (KT333) will try to demonstrate
the speed advantage the KT400 chipset has over the previous generation
of chips. During all of the tests, the memory on the Gigabyte 7VRXP is
set to DDR333 CAS 2.

Content Creation is a good measure of how well a system performs
while switching from one media application to another and performing tasks
in each. There appears to be no difference from running DDR400 or DDR333
according to these results. The KD7 trails the KT333 equipped 7VRXP in
this benchmark.

Using our simple sea website templates on our site you can buy website templates The PCMark2002 test runs a series of test to demonstrate a system
ability to perform varied tasks and gauges the performance of each area
tested. Here we see DDR333 showing up the DDR400 setting on the KD7. The
7VRXP performs very well compared to the newer KD7 with the KT400. The
Hard Drive score shows a definite speed advantage for the 7VRXP by a margin
of 9%. The 7VRXP (KT333) has less than a 5% advantage over the KD7 in
the CPU and memory scores.

There is little performance difference in the SiSoft Sandra 2003 CPU
Arithmetic Benchmark among the three boards tested. The 7VRXP ever
so slightly edges out the KD7 in the tests.

The results are pretty much the same for the Multi-Media CPU Benchmark
as with the CPU Arithmetic Benchmark. At this point, the 7VRXP is holding
on to a slight lead in the benchmarks.

The Memory Benchmarks tell a much different story than the previous
CPU Benchmarks. There is a dramatic drop in performance when the memory
timings are set to DDR400 as opposed to DDR333. One would expect a 10%
gain rather than a 10% drop when you increase the transfer speeds between
the memory and the CPU. By setting the memory timings on the KD7 to DDR333,
the 7VRXP and the KD7 are neck and neck in performance results.

With the 3DMark2001SE Build 330 benchmark results, we see a pattern
developing. The DDR400 speed is a disadvantage to the KD7. Running the
KT400 board at DDR333 allows the KD7 to make it a much closer race with
the fastest KT333 board we have tested, the 7VRXP.

Here is another DirectX 8 based benchmark from the game Aquanox.
Here the results are all within 3FPS of each other.

The grandpa of benchmarks, Quake III, keeps telling the same story
here as well. At 1024x768 we see the 7VRXP beating the KD7 with DDR333
by less than 5%. At higher resolutions, the GPU becomes more of a limiting
factor.

Codecreatures Benchmark Pro is very much like 3DMark2001SE. This
DirectX 8.1 benchmark is very demanding. Testing requires 128MB of Video
Memory. The system works to display a series of scenes at 1024x768, 1280x1024,
and 1600x1200 while gauging the FPS of each scene. Then you end up with
a final score calculated using the results of all three test.

Unreal Tournament 2003 has become the baseline for what you need
in a gaming system. With that said, congratulations are in order for the
KD7 in actually coming through and beating the 7VRXP in one category of
the UT2003 Benchmark. The KD7 beat the 7VRXP by 0.04 FPS in the Game Benchmark
and lost in the Flyby.
