Introduction

Have you ever thought about creating your very own PVR? With this device, the V-Stream TV-PVR, you can do just that. In this review, we will show how you can add another component to your home entertainment computer, allowing you to watch TV and record TV shows right on your computer into a variety of formats.

When I firstd up the X-Pert TV-PVR box, I was a little surprised that a company I never heard of could have produced such a wonderful device. Thanks to Monarch Computer forng my eyes and ears to this! This is what you get for a little under $100:

Box Contents
XPERT TV-PVR USB 2.0 TV Box
1/8" audio connector Audio cable
User Manuals
RCA to S-Video connector
Installation CD-Rom
Remote Controller

The user manuals include instructions describing how to set up the TV box, USB 2.0 installation, and Honest Technology software. K-World recommends that you install the drivers for USB 2.0 before installing the TV box, because USB 1.1 simply does not provide enough bandwidth, as found in Robert Richmond's review called "Television on the Go: External TV Tuners".

As soon as you pop in the installation CD the autorun will prompt you to update the USB drivers to 2.0 if you have not already done so. They are included on the provided CD. Once you update the USB drivers, you will need to install the drivers for the TV Box. Next, you set the software up for the country you live in. This is a really neat feature with this device, because it saves the manufacturer from having to make two separate versions as this one supports both of today's standards - NTSC and PAL.

Conversely, if you do not know what your standard is you can pick what country you are from:

After you choose the TV format, you need to install the Honest Technology software so you can watch TV, DVD's, or any A/V equipment.
