Then Id the subwoofer. "WOW!" What an enormous ten inch
woofer, especially for that size box. Wait
. After looking inside
the grill I see it's not nearly as big as the large silver ring on the
outside would have you think it is. It is only eight inches. My first
thought is why? Did they do that to deceive me or was it just part of
the "fashion" of speakers these days? I don't think it was intentional
deception, but I do believe there is a subliminal effect on the "bigger
is better" part of the male brain. Please note, this will not affect
women purchasers as that section of the brain is replaced with a section
that causes them to buy large numbers of expensive shoes
Looking carefully at this component, it's flat. I have seen flat speakers
before, but this starts me wondering, it looks like it is a passive radiator
rather than an actual woofer. So I decide to pull out the guts and see
what is in this thing. The amplifier section is average for the system.
The transformer is built into the subwoofer enclosure so you have a normal
plug on the end of a wire, rather than a receptacle hogging transformer.
The amplifier is compact, but very well made, I only wish the wires were
a little longer so I didn't have to cut them to get the panel out of the
box.

Then to my horror, I see the subwoofer component. Surely not
Yes,
that's it. I am shocked at the size of this component. I admit some of
this shock comes from the fact that I have already done my subjective
listening and audio testing including a side by side comparison between
these and the Cambridge Soundworks equivalent.

Using our simple sea website templates on our site you can buy website templates This set DOES have a good healthy bass response, better, in fact; than
the Cambridge Soundworks sub does. There is inside a dual port of sorts.
A port tube running through the center divider on which the component
is mounted. This in turn fires through a second tube mounted to the rear
wall. I decided not to destroy the box in order to see inside the section
where the back of the woofer faces the passive radiator. I have to say
this system obviously works since this driver which is at least a half
inch smaller than that in the Cambridge system supplies more bass. I would
have to say this is why there is no mention of component size in the specifications,
if there was many prospective buyers would prejudge the performance and
they would be mistaken.
One final note about logistics, I like the wires on these speakers. They
are not as thin and flimsy and they have standard RCA plugs on them so
it is easy to add to. The only thing better would be an RCA connection
on the speaker its self rather than hard wiring it into the enclosure.
As noted earlier, the stands are nice and adjustable and they have built
in rubber feet which I like. All parts are unobtrusive and do not get
in your way in cramped areas.

With all the good things this system has to offer it still pings that
one pet nerve of mine. Why oh why oh why do degreed and supposedly intelligent
engineers design a speaker system with the subwoofer control knob mounted
on the back of the subwoofer box in a place where it will be underneath
your desk and pointed away from you? Good lord people, snag a clue. If
you're going to run that big ole thick multiconductor cable to the right
front speaker, go ahead and put ONE more knob on it. In this case, in
place of the "M3D" button, which is apparently useless.
