Interior

The interior of this case is almost the same as the Thermal Take Xaser III. There are five 5.25" bays, two 3.5"to the front of the case, and three 3.5" Hard drive bays. There are 5 case fans inside the fan; they all produce a blue light when they are on.

This is where the fan controller attaches to the fans. You can only hook up 3pin fans; there is no support for fans that get their power from a normal Molex connector. There are spots to hook up 7 fans to the fan controller, however the case only has room for 5. There is a set of DIP switches that controls what fan plugs the fan controller monitors. When I received the case all the switches were on, and since the case only has 5 fans as soon as I turned the computer on the fan controller gave me a fan fail warning on empty slots 6 and 7. I had to disable the DIP switches myself.

This is the hard drive bay. There is space for up to 3 hard drives in the bay, and the front fan blows right through the bay keeping your hard drives nice and cool.

The case has a tool less PCI ports, allowing you to change PCI cards without a screwdriver. In case you have any doublewide cards (for example, a Geforce 6800 Ultra) you will have to remove the tool less PCI cover and use regular screws.

Thermal Testing

Test System
  • Motherboard: BFG nForce 4 Ultra
  • CPU: AMD 64 3500+ (939)
  • RAM: Simpletech DDR400 PC3200 1GB (2 sticks 512)
  • Hard Drive: Western Digital 80gig SATA 7200RPM
  • Video: GeForce 6200
  • Power Supply: X-Connect 500Watt

I ran a battery of tests on the case trying to see how it did thermally. I mostly ran Prime95 and 3dMark05 in order to heat the system up. It did pretty well; the temperatures were all on the low end. The CPU did not even get above 40C. Since the case did so well with the fans on, I started wondering what would happen if I disconnect all the case fans. With the case fans disconnected the temperatures did rise, but they stayed within operational specs, even if they were on the high end.

Conclusion

This case did very well on my tests, and it looks nice too. The only negative thing about the case I found was the dim fan controller LED. The case is also pretty heavy; the shipping label on the box lists the weight as 36lbs for the empty case and box. Besides those two things, I could find nothing else about the case I did not like. I would definately recommend this case.
