Thermaltake G4-VGA Copper Cooler
By: Tracy Cash

NVIDIA has certainly done a very good job with their GeForce4 line of video cards. The price/performance ratio has been wonderful, especially with the lower priced Ti4200/4400 series of cards. What many of us have found out is that we can overclock our cheaper version to reach the performance of the higher priced cards. I purchased my MSI GeForce4 Ti4400 based on its price. Knowing there was not much difference between the Ti4400 and the Ti4600, I chose to pocket the extra $120.

Being the type of person who can't leave well enough alone, I began to overclock my new card. After playing around for a while I soon reached the ceiling of my cards overclockabilty. In my experience in overclocking, a larger heatsink generally seems to help. So I started looking to see what there was to help me in my dilemma.

After shopping around, I found that Thermaltake "just happens to make" a GeForce 4 Ti Series copper heatsink kit that is exactly what I am looking for. Thermaltake, based in Taiwan, was founded in 1999. According to reports, they have achieved an annual growth rate of 92%. To do that, I would say they must have been doing something right. I have been using Thermaltake products since the "Orbs" and I have yet to be disappointed. If it needs to be cooled in a computer, it would appear Thermaltake has a product for it.

The New Heatsink

The Thermaltake G4-VGA Copper Cooler is an all copper heatsink for the GeForce4 Ti4200, Ti4400, and Ti4600 line of video cards. The copper cooler is made to replace the existing cooler already mounted to GeForce4 Ti video card. Not only does it have the cooler for the Graphics Processor (GPU) on the card, but it also comes with heatsinks for the memory chips as well. The memory heatsinks are aluminum though and not copper like the GPU cooler.

The GPU cooler is an easy snap in place design that is perfectly matched to the current cooler on my card now. For the mounting of the cooler, Thermaltake has supplied a package of Dow corning T-340 thermal grease interface material to help conduct heat to the new cooler. Just in case the cooler's power connector is incompatible with the video card, there is a 4-pin adapter supplied. There are six strips of tape for easy mounting of the memory heatsinks to the video card.
