Test Platform
We will be taking the Gainward GeForce2 Ti 500/XP Golden Sample for a test run against the cost effective GeForce2 MX and also the ATI Radeon 64 DDR video card to help give us a bit of perspective on performance. All tests are performed on the following system with a fresh OS install with all current patches installed. We are also running the latest Official Release drivers from each manufacture. Our system used is as follows:
Motherboard: Epox 8KHA+ w/Audio Rev 2.0
Processor: AMD 1.4 ghz T-bird (266)
Heatsink: SK-6 w/Delta Black Label
Memory: 256 megs Crucial Memory
Hard Drive: 40gb 7200rpm IBM 60GXP
Operating System: Win 98se
Video Card: Gainward GeForce2 Ti 500/XP Golden Sample
Video Card Drivers: Detonator XP v23.11 Windows® 95/98/Me
You may have noticed we are running Windows 98se on our test rig. Somebody is sure to wonder why and the reason is simple. After untold hours of gaming, benchmarking and testing Windows 98se IMHO is still a better multi-purpose gaming platform. Windows 2000 has made giant leaps in the area of gaming performance but I still prefer the older 98se for gaming.
