V.92-is the new dial-up modem specification from the ITU (International Telecommunications Union) that introduces three new features that will add convenience and performance for the modem user. The three features are quick connect, modem-on-hold and PCM Upstream.
V.44-Compression-is a new compression standard developed by Hughes Network Systems and is designed specifically for the Internet to provide faster access to Web pages and maximizes the efficiency of data retrieval. V.44 delivers an improvement data throughput in compression rates over the existing V.42bis compression method. Lets look at each key feature:
- QuickConnect-shortens the connection time to the Internet by remembering the connection dialog with your ISP on the first call - making subsequent connections in up to half the time. This is also called modem handshake.
- Modem-on-hold allows you to receive an incoming call and stay connected to the Internet - without disrupting your Internet connection. (Call-waiting service required for Modem-on-hold functionality.)
- PCM Upstream-increases the upstream data rates between the user and ISP to reduce upload times for large files and email attachments. A maximum of 48 Kbps upstream rate is supported. PCM Upstream will work exceptionally well with new equipment such as Internet-connected digital cameras, FTP servers, which primarily upload rather than download information.
Voice Support-set up your own voice-mail system to receive messages from incoming voice calls.
TAD Connector (DI5631 only)-On-board TAD (telephone answering device) Connector and a TAD Cable for easy connection to a sound card to provide a richer online audio experience and clearer voice mail messages.
TAM functionality (DI5633 only)-TAM (Telephone Answering Machine) functionality allows you to use your sound card for modem/voice support without making additional connections. You can set up your own voice-mail system on your PC to receive messages from incoming voice calls.
Full-Duplex Speakerphone (DI5631 only)-Speak hands-free over the phone line through a microphone and speakers. (Microphone and speakers not included)
